INTRODUCING…The Israeli Reds

What started out as a coterie of fans watching the 2004 FA CUP FINAL victory over Millwall has evolved into the Israeli Reds – one of the newest official supporters' branches.

Branch secretary Simon Zeltser started it all after realising there were a host of fellow Israelis who shared his passion for the Reds.

"There is a huge interest in United in Israel," says Simon. "The idea was to unite fans over here by setting up a network which would allow supporters to watch games together and give them the chance to travel to Old Trafford. It took around two years of hard work to make it happen, but we're delighted to now be recognised as an official branch."

The rapidly growing branch has 75 official ONE UNITED members, but there are around 650 people involved in meetings and events, and many of those meet up each week.

"We try to create an atmosphere similar to that in the Bishop Blaize pub(near the ground) before every match with everyone joining in for a good sing-song," reveals Simon.

"We prefer to meet in pubs with an English atmosphere to make us feel as close to United as possible."

The Israeli Reds make regular trips to the Theatre of Dreams and will be here for the visit of Liverpool in March. Those who can't make it over will head to MASH – a sports bar in Tel Aviv.

"We always enjoy it there," adds Simon. "We hold our annual events at The Dancing Camel and there are two great Irish pubs, Molly Blooms and Dublin, which are always happy to accomodate us."
